Honeybunches Now-a-days...

Honeybunches has been doing well since his hospitalization back in 2009. As I mentioned, things are not perfect but better than I ever thought they would be. Since his BP has become "Stable" (Knocking hard on wood), his Autism symptoms have become more prevelant. For example his sensory issues, anxiety, lack of understanding and difficulty with transitions are easier to see now and really affect his life a lot. He is often a bit manic which I've been told will most likely never go away. He has a hard time understanding facial expressions and how his behavior affects others.

His biggest issue right now is that his medications are causing health issues. So far in his life he's seen a Genetics doc. That came out normal. He has seen a Pediatric Audiologist who said his hearing is exceptionally good. He's seen two Pediatric Cardiologists. Once when he was four and just a month ago. This time they did an EKG which came out fine. He is under the care of a GI doc for his "Fatty Liver". He has high triglycerides and cholestrol too. They have gone down a bit since being on his Vegan diet which this doc suggested. His liver enzymes are going up though so they just did an ultrasound of his liver at a major children's hospital. We go back to see the GI doc in a couple weeks to get the results and see how the last blood work came out. His health issues worry me. He is only 9 1/2 years old and weighs 107 lbs. Most of that was gained back when he was on Risperdal which caused him to gain 65 lbs in 2 years going from a skinny 35 lbs at age 4 to being 99 lbs at age 6. That was horrible and IDK how they left him on that for so long. Knowing what I do now I would not have let that happen, but no need going there with things. Can't turn back time. I got him on the list for a 2nd opinion at a major teaching hospital for a 2nd opinion on his meds and health issues. The meds work amazingly well and knowing his history the pdoc and I are scared to change anything. Honeybunches has been called "Complicated", "Complex", "Fragile" and "A tough cookie to figure out". He is under the care of a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician for his Autism too. We don't have to see her again until next Autumn because she was happy with his progress. He has come such a long way. He's doing pretty well in school with his amazing teacher. He's made a ton of progress with her.

In the past he's also had two sleep deprived EEGs to make sure he was not having seizures and seen a Pediatric Neurologist who diagnosed him with Tardive Dyskinesia. That's gotten better since the addition of Cogentin into his med combo and lowering his Abilify which also gave him Akathesia.
