Happenings...

I just realized it's been over a month since I updated this page!!  Wow.  I have been living more in Facebook land and on my page thereHoneybunches Autism Bipolar Journey.

Anyways, things have changed since the last post.  Honeybunches began struggling at home and school.  He's become very aggressive.  We did a Lithium draw last week two weeks ago.  The pdoc got the results last week showing that he was only .6 which is very low for him.  He does best about 1.1.  I was telling the pdoc that maybe Geodon is not the right med for him, but she wants to give the recent Lithium increase time to work before changing anything else. Our med options are limited because of his liver issues.  She added in another 150 mg Lithium capsule in the mornings too, along with the 300 ERs and the 150 regular he takes at night.   Hopefully that will work, but knowing how things were in the past he might need a change over to the 450 ERs.  His body does better with the extended release version.  We shall see in another week or so.  Next week we go get his blood drawn again.  Then we'll know. Somehow the change from Abilify to Geodon seemed to throw off his Lithium level.

The other day he was more aggressive then we've seen in years.  I could envision him needing to go back to the hospital again soon.  Then yesterday was a good day.  Those good days help me keep hope.  He hasn't been sleeping as well as he was on Abilify either.  This week is vacation week.  No school for February break.  We were supposed to have an IEP meeting, at his teacher's request. That got cancelled because of a snow day a few weeks ago.  Then the teacher got in a car accident. Now we are on vacation.  Hopefully I'll hear from them next week.  I called several times to reschedule it but didn't hear back.  I'm done bugging them, since it wasn't me who requested it anyways.

Appointments 1 and 2 with the new counselor went well.  At the 3rd appointment Honeybunches got very aggressive.  At that point he was off the Abilify.  The counselor said he could see something shifted.  He asked a couple times "Do you think we should call crisis"?  "Have you ever had to call crisis?"  That was the closest we've come to having to call them.  I guess that's one of the best places to have a hard time controlling his body though.  It helps the counselor see how things can be sometimes.

We have an appointment to get a 2nd opinion on his meds next month.  The new pediatrician referred us saying that it was a prerequisite for seeing a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician in their chain.  Whatever.  Maybe the new pdoc will have new ideas on meds that are okay with a fatty liver that might work better for him than Geodon is.  We seen the new GI doc.  He took Honeybunches off the Vegan diet and suggested I feed him more fatty foods.  Honeybunches sure has been happy eating meat and cheese again!  He had 3 ultrasounds done on his liver and spleen a couple weeks ago.  They did # 1, then came to the cafeteria to find us for #2 to get a better look.  I could tell something did not look right by the looks the tech was giving as she stared at the screen.  The doc called us when we got home saying we had to go back that next Monday for #3 so they could look closer at his spleen which looked to be enlarged.  He wanted to see how the blood was flowing through it.  It turned out to be flowing just fine, but as we suspected his liver is still enlarged and "Fatty" so he has to have a biopsy on that sometime in the next month or so.  I'm still waiting for them to get the team together and call us with an appointment.
